you would presumably be advising the Governor from
a techincal point of view on the matter, I thought
it only fair that you should have an opportunity of
seeing Siemens manufactured system in operation,
which I gather you have not yet done. Accordingly,
r. Laidlaw will write to you proposing that you
should visit Sheffield in his company, and inspect
the system in use there. Your expenses so incurred
will be refunded by the Government in accordance with
the usual scale, and if you should consider it necessary
or advisable to visit the Siemens' works at Woolwich,
your expenses for such visit would also be refunded.
You should, of course, furnish us with a report of the
Besult of your visit or visits.
Yours truly,
sgr
W.D. Ellis.
